LUSU Discussed Their Ongoing Journey in Techno World

With the release of 'Freaks' on HILOMATIK, the duo continues to build momentum, earning support from some of the scene's biggest names while preparing an exciting slate of new music and international performances. We caught up with LUSU to talk about the origins of the project, their creative process, why HILOMATIK feels like the perfect home for their music, and what's still to come in 2026.

At what point did you realize this project had the potential to become something much bigger than just another collaboration?

Before LUSU existed, we already worked on a few collabs together. The general vibe we had in the studio was already great. After just a few days spending studio time in a house in nature, we had like 5/6 demos we were super happy with. That’s when we knew LUSU wasn't just a side project, it was its own thing with its own identity.

How has your creative process changed, and what does a typical studio session look like today?

One of us throws down a groove or a chord idea, the other builds on it, and we don't overthink it. A typical session today starts with morning coffee/tea and somewhere during the afternoon Wiwek makes his legendary spicy fish sandwiches. After this we usually go for a walk around the city center of Haarlem. And between all these activities we finish music or start some new ideas.

How would you describe the LUSU sound to someone hearing it for the first time?

It's house and techno with a melodic backbone — groove-driven enough for the club, but with enough emotion in the chords and arrangement that it still hits on headphones.

What keeps bringing you back to HILOMATIK, and how has working with the team been?

HILOMATIK gets the sound we're going for. The team has also just been easy to work with: fast feedback, real creative trust, and they let the music lead rather than chasing trends. Also we get some proper feedback straight from Olivier (HI-LO), so that helps too.

Is there an artist or producer you'd love to collaborate with that you haven't worked with yet?

That’s a good one. Lately, we’ve been super intrigued by SHDW’s sound. But a cool collaboration would be the likes of Pan-Pot, Drunken Kong or Kaufmann. We think that could be sick. Also, we always had the goal to work with Wehbba, which did happen. We just finished & signed a collaboration EP.

Looking back, what moment stands out as the biggest milestone?

There are already many, but collaborating with the likes of HI-LO and Eli Brown was great. Playing those tunes together on some big stages was epic.

What can fans expect from LUSU in the second half of 2026?

"Freaks" is just the start of what we've got lined up — a new remix with Paul Oakenfold is coming up next. Also, as mentioned before, we have a new collab EP with Wehbba coming up in the second half of 2026. Furthermore, we’re doing some shows in Europe and Japan soon. Excited for that!
