“Open Your Heart” builds on Heldens’ recent vocal-led work, channeling synth-driven nostalgia into one of his most personal tracks yet.
Oliver Heldens is in the thick of a global tour, but his new single “Open Your Heart,” out now via Heldeep Records, feels like a personal pause amid the momentum. True to its title, “Open Your Heart” finds Heldens blending warmth and drive through radiant vocals and a euphoric groove that keeps the listener grounded.
At the heart of the track, no pun intended, is the duality that has shaped Heldens’ sound over the last decade. The vocals carry a quiet, yet emotional weight, offering words of comfort and encouragement rooted in the idea that vulnerability can be a path to growth: “Open your heart, give it space for the unknown / Out in the dark, there’s a place for you to grow.”
They sit close, surrounded by synths that stretch and shimmer while the rhythm keeps everything firmly anchored, showcasing Heldens’ signature bounce. Meanwhile, the production draws influence from the hazy glow of indie-dance and synthwave, as Heldens says he was inspired by the sounds of MGMT, Empire of the Sun and M83.
The deeply personal track feels like a friend who’s always there for you, carrying a personal touch that resonates. It clearly came from a special place for Heldens, who opened up about its inspirations.
“‘Open Your Heart’ is a motivational song that I wrote kind of as a ‘reminder’ to myself; it’s meant to stir you in a forward direction with a positive mindset,” he said. “It’s about how we as humans learn from our struggles and from going out of our comfort zones, with an open heart. As in no matter what happens, as long as you ‘open your heart,’ you’ll be on the right path.”
